The taxonomy and distribution of two species of the subgenus Disticha of Paspalum, as represented in South Africa, are presented. Two distinct, closely related species are recognized, namelyPaspalum paspatodes (Michx.) Scribn. (previously known as P. distichum L., the name being rejected as a no men confusum), and P. vaginatum Swartz.
